November 29, 2012
The Marietta Times

George Lawrence of Fifth Street was cleaning his shotgun when the gun discharged and the pointer finger of his left hand was shot off. Lawrence had believed the gun was empty of shells.

Martin Beaver of New Matamoras was killed instantly when his car plunged over an embankment and rolled over. Beaver's son was badly injured, and another passenger, Harry English, escaped with minor injuries.

Compiled by Amanda Nicholson, Marietta College Special Collections.
