Turkey Trot a success for many reasons

December 6, 2012
The Marietta Times

As the president of River City Runners and Walkers Club, I was overwhelmed by the participation and volunteerism I witnessed on Thanksgiving Day in Parkersburg's City Park. This year's Turkey Trot was the largest ever and I can only hope the trend continues.

There are many people to thank for the day's success. One the weather was perfect. A race director could not have wished for better conditions. The Parkersburg police were very helpful. Thank you. All the volunteers including the cross country parents and runners from Parkersburg High School, Parkersburg South High School, and Williamstown High School, made the day a safe and successful run or walk. Thank you. The many volunteers who helped give out shirts and information before, during and after the race. Thank you. Race director, Joe Corra, put tireless hours into making the 34th annual Turkey Trot a success. Thank you. I need to send out a huge heartfelt thank you to the residents of Washington Ave. Your street has long been known as a runner/walker haven but we owe you a debt of gratitude for Thanksgiving morning. Thank you for allowing us to use your beautiful street to stream 3100 plus running and walking participant so they may enjoy family and friends on this very special day and begin or continue their Thanksgiving tradition of the Parkersburg Turkey Trot.

River City Runners and Walkers know we are not the reason this event is a success but rather you - the volunteers, residents, and participants of the Parkersburg Turkey Trot make this day a success. It is a wonderful positive reflection of the residents of Wood and surrounding counties. The picture of runners, walkers, baby strollers, dogs, and even a few turkeys making their way up or down Washington Avenue is an awesome sight and one I look forward to every year. I know it can be an inconvenience but know we appreciate the sacrifice and your support.

Thanks to all of you the 34th annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot brought 3000 thousand plus friends and family together one more time. Thank you.
