Marietta Chapter NSDAR

The Oct. 6 meeting of the Marietta Chapter NSDAR was held at the chapter house. Hostess were Lila Hill, Opal Miller and Nancy Morris. Following lunch Regent Anita Shumake introduced Carman Horn portraying "Sarah Zane McIntire", daughter of Ebenezer Zane. He was a Virginia native and a good businessman. Sarah was the third of thirteen. In 1787 Ebenezer Zane hired a cobbler John McIntire. Sarah and this blue eyed, red haired man, who limped. married, he 30 and Sarah 16. The government asked Ebenezer to build a 220 miles road from Wheeling to Stonetown, Ky. He was rewarded with 2000 acres of land of his choosing. He got land in the Lancaster area and Chillicothe. Gave 320 acres to John McIntire who prospered and was responsible for the area which became Zanesville. John wanted Zanesville to become the State Capitol. In 1816 John died, Sarah was 47. She remarried Rev. David Young. She died at 80. John's money was retained by Zanesville and is still (2012) supporting schools, churches, libraries etc.

After giving a tour of the house to our guests, Regent Anita Shmake opened the meeting with the Rituals.

Three certificates recognizing the efforts of the Marietta Chapter were shared: President General project 100%, Chapter Achievement, Level 1 and DAR Good Citizen Award of student awards of $500 and a Thank you from the State Regent Sharlene Shoaf. Also a Proclamation from Mayor Joe Mathew and pictures from the window display at the Workingmans Store, for Constitution Week.

Wanda Frash was approved as a prospective member.

The Nov. 3 meeting of the Marietta Chapter NSDAR was held at the chapter house. Tables were decorated in a fall theme and lunch was served by hostess Mary Cornwall and Susan Hobensack.

Regent Anita Shumake introduced Brad Walker and Lucky Metheny. Their subject was "Medical Protection Program." Brad gave an account of his personal life and how he has been in this line of work for years. It was informative and the members appreciated his advise.

Rebecca Adams was guest for lunch, as a prospective member.
