For a victim of domestic violence, or someone who just lost their home to fire or some other tragedy, the simple gift of a warm quilt to wrap up in goes a long way.
Thanks to the handy work of a group of local women, people in trouble will receive such an act of kindness. The women are quilters and this week donated 29 quilts to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Officials say the quilts will be kept in deputies' cruisers until they are needed.
We are glad to see the group combine their love of quilting with their love of community. The O'Neill Center provides space to the group for their quilting, and the group accepts donations for supplies, but otherwise their time and talents are donated.
Each quilt is lovingly crafted. They are made up of a variety of patterns so as to appeal to children and adults. The group says they will soon begin working on a new batch of quilts for the future.
We hope the group inspires others to use their talents to better the life of another, especially someone in need. What better way to celebrate your gifts, during the holidays and all year round.
