- Crescent Supply Co. laid off most of its employees Dec. 21. Workers were told that Sprague Electrical Co. would open a plumbing supply business on the Crescent site.
- Roger and Betsy Kalter, of Marietta, will show the best 400 of 23,000 photos taken during their bicycling trip around the world on Monday, Jan. 25, at the Betsey Mills Club.

- Washington County Commissioner Sandra Matthews looked through salary calculations for staff. She said it was too early to tell how much or if any money would be available for raises.
- Two Marietta Middle School students, Rebecca Pellett and Wendy Jenkins, have had work published in the eighth annual Athens Peace Prize Anthology.

- Six trains operated on the M. C. & C. Railroad to bring shoppers to Marietta.
- Charles Boothby attempted to break out of jail. He was transferred to Lancaster Reform School.
