Richard K. Tuel, 76, of Fly, died Saturday (Dec. 22, 2012) at his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1936 in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Paul and Leona Haddox Tuel.
He was a retired oil worker for Quaker State in St. Marys, W.Va., and Pennzoil in Oil City, Pa.; a member of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Fly, the Oil, Chemical & Atomic Workers Union, and the NRA. He was valedictorian of the 1954 graduating class of New Matamoras High School.
Richard loved to share his knowledge of local history and lore, read avidly, worked with old oil and gas engines, enjoyed hunting and spending time in the woods, and enjoyed a wide range of music-including his wife's piano playing and his granddaughters' blue grass music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Tuel Davis; and a sister, Mary Susan Ritchie.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Minger Tuel; a son, Mark (Crystal) Tuel of Mount Vernon, Ohio; two daughters, Rhonda (Tim R.) Price of Sardis, Ohio and Melissa (Monty) Tuel Evans of Johnstown, Ohio; one brother, Harry Gordon (Judy) Tuel of Marysville, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Christophor Davis and Lauren and Leanna Price.
Family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third St., New Martinsville, W.Va. Visitation will also be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Gravel Hill Baptist Church, State Route 800, Fly, Ohio, with the Rev. James Dickey and Pastor Chuck Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill (Mehrley) Cemetery.
