A pair of South Carolina residents were arrested on drug trafficking charges near Macksburg on Christmas Eve.
According to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers stopped a 2002 Honda Accord driven by Christopher A. Burton, 25, of Greenville, S.C., for a speeding violation on Interstate 77 near milepost 16 around 11:40 p.m. Monday. The release says troopers detected the scent of marijuana and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle with the help of Washington County sheriff's deputies, turning up 105 Oxycodone pills, five grams of methamphetamine, three grams of marijuana, nine pieces of drug paraphernalia and multiple drug trafficking items.
Sgt. M.S. Seabolt, with the patrol's Marietta post, said an estimated value of the drugs confiscated was not immediately available, but the number of Oxycodone pills is "a bulk amount, definitely not for regular use."

Both Burton and his passenger, 21-year-old Greenville resident Heather N. Ellason were each arrested on third-degree felony charges of drug-trafficking and possession of Oxycodone, a fifth-degree felony count of possession of methamphetamine and a minor misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
They remained in the Washington County Jail Tuesday evening. Bond had not been set due to the holiday.
