Two Marietta men were arrested Thursday for fifth-degree felony heroin possession.
The Major Crimes Task Force executed a warrant at 729 Ninth St., the home of Freddy D. Taylor Jr., 41. Also in the residence at the time was Russell C. Beardsley, 38, of 19580 State Route 550.
"They were part of an investigation that we are conducting. We obtained information from sources that they were distributing heroin out of that residence and that they were also users," said Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks.
Upon approaching the residence, an agent observed Taylor seated at a desk, apparently working on something in front of him. Beardsley was standing beside Taylor with his sleeve rolled up and a belt and syringe in hand, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
Once inside, task force agents located several foil balls, commonly used to package heroin for resale, at the desk where Taylor had been seated.
"You have a lot of addicts who pool their money together and run to Columbus. They get enough to sell so they can re-up and go back," said Mincks.
Agents also located a tablespoon with what appeared to be a single dose of heroin and an empty syringe at the residence. A separate spoon where Beardsley had been standing had brown residue on it.
All of those items will be sent to a lab for testing, said Mincks.
Beardsley admitted to being a heroin user but denied being at the residence for that purpose.
Taylor admitted to having recently used but said "he had slacked off in the habit lately," according to the affidavit of facts from the arrest.
Both men were arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail.
