Larry William "Gus" Smithberger, 72, of Marietta died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2012) at Marietta Care Center.
He was born on Feb. 29, 1940, in Harriettsville, Ohio the son of Harry and Minnie Haffner Smithberger.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and had been employed at Kardex Systems. He was also a Life Member of the Marietta Elks Lodge #477 and was the secretary-treasurer for 25 years of the Washington County Harness Association.
On Jan. 16, 1971, he married Mary Lou Keller and she survives with two step sons, Doug Stollar and his friend Diane, of Bartlett, and David Stollar (Amy) of Reno. Three step grandsons Matthew, Christopher and Steven Stollar, one sister-in-law Katherine Smithberger of Worthington, Ohio and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Millie and Roy Cunningham of Elyria, Ohio and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Robert Smithberger, one sister, Jean, her husband, Ray Burkhart, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Eleanor Dickson.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 3, 2013) at the St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St. from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today.
