- The Marietta Family YMCA will begin offering a variety of programs for fifth- through eighth-graders. Water polo, weight lifting, basketball, swimming, aerobics, water basketball and junior lifesaving are among the programs offered. They are $10 for members and $20 for non-members.
- The Marietta City Council has approved a financing plan for buying $135,000 in radio equipment for fire, police, water and sewer departments.
100 years ago
-Six men were killed when a freight train on the C. & O. line went through the Huntington Bridge. Fifteen others were injured and at least two others are missing.
- A water main gave way on Second Street in between Washington and St. Clair streets. Water service was restored at 8 a.m.
