Esther A. "Betty" Maddox, 81, of Barlow, passed away at 1:35 p.m. on Monday(Dec. 31, 2012), at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on Aug. 16, 1931, a daughter of the late Homer O. and Viola Jackson Wise.
Betty graduated from Vincent High School in 1949. She retired in 1991 from Warren Local Schools after 30 years of service, where she served as secretary to Warren High School librarian. She was a 50-year member of Marietta Chapter 59 Eastern Star, was a member of Bartlett Senior Citizens and a member of Bartlett United Methodist Church.
On June 12, 1955, she was married by Rev. Harrison at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Belpre to James R. Maddox who survives with their children, Michael R. Maddox of Bartlett and Patricia A. ( David) Graham all of Bartlett; grandchildren, Amy Graham (Thomas) Bean of Marietta and Tabatha Graham of Bartlett; great-grandchildren, Cameron J. Bean of Marietta and Miranda Bean of Belpre; nephew, Jerald Maddox of Vincent and Denver Wise of New Albany; niece, Pamela Wise Miller of Marietta.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Daymon and Herman Wise; sister, Ada Irene Wise; nephew, Rodney Maddox; niece, Diana Wise Randolph.
The family would like to expend a thank you to Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta Home Health, Pioneer Medical and Barlow Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral services will be held on Friday (Jan. 4) at 11 a.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Helen Kline officiating. Burial will follow in Bartlett Cemetery.
