Scholarships available for area students
Our Community's Foundation - The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) and the Regional Affiliate Foundations of Doddridge, Ritchie, Jackson, Mason Counties and the Little Kanawha area - announces the availability of scholarships for students from throughout the Foundation's service area (Wood, Calhoun, Gilmer, Doddridge, Roane, Wirt, Ritchie, Jackson, Mason, and Pleasants counties in West Virginia and Washington County). Students can access information about scholarships by visiting the Foundation's web site at www.pacfwv.com. The Foundation uses one consolidated application for most scholarships; this application can be completed and submitted online this year. To access the application, click "Scholarships" on the Foundation's home page. The application deadline for this consolidated application form is March 6, 2013.
The Foundation administers more than 170 scholarship funds; each award has certain eligibility restrictions. For example, some scholarships are restricted to students graduating from a particular high school; others are restricted to students pursuing a certain field of study or attending a particular post-secondary educational institution. Applicants must first review the list of all Foundation scholarships, along with eligibility criteria, to determine scholarships for which they are eligible. The scholarship description list also is available on the Foundation's web site.
Founded in 1963, the Foundation serves as a vehicle through which community members can create permanent funds to benefit the charitable needs of the region. The Foundation administers more than 300 funds, supporting a wide variety of charitable purposes throughout the region.
Scholarships available for vocational and technical students
Our Community's Foundation - The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) and the Regional Affiliate Foundations of Doddridge, Ritchie, Jackson, Mason Counties and the Little Kanawha Area - announces the availability of scholarships for students from throughout the Foundation's service area (Wood, Calhoun, Gilmer, Doddridge, Roane, Wirt, Ritchie, Jackson, Mason, and Pleasants Counties in West Virginia and Washington County, Ohio) who are pursuing vocational or technical degrees.
The Hino Motors Scholarship is open to graduating seniors from Wood, Wirt, Jackson, Ritchie, Pleasants, Doddridge, Calhoun, Gilmer, Roane or Mason Counties in West Virginia or Washington, Noble, Athens, or Meigs Counties in Ohio was are seeking at least as associates degree in a program related to manufacturing, transportation, or logistics/distribution systems at a post-secondary institution located in the state of West Virginia or within 75 miles of the Hino manufacturing plant in Willliamstown, West Virginia. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average and a minimum 19 on the ACT.
The Parkersburg-Marietta Contractors Association Scholarship is open to residents of Jackson, Ritchie, Pleasants, Wirt or Wood County in West Virginia or Washington County, Ohio, who are actively engaged in the pursuit of study or training involving the following occupational trades: carpentry, millwright, sheet metal work, welding, electrical work, plumbing, painting, engineering operations, building construction or other closely-related trades. Applicants must be newly entering the trade or field and scholarship funds may be used for educational studies or to purchase tools and equipment to enter the trade.
The Harrisville Lions Club Scholarship is open to residents of Ritchie County who are pursuing vocational, technical or trade-related education. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average and have financial need for scholarship support.
The William Reaser Scholarship is open to Ritchie County High School graduating seniors who plan to pursue post-secondary education in a technical or vocational field. Selection is based on academic achievement or potential in the area of vocational/technical studies, character, service, and financial need.
The "Sig" and Kate Barker Memorial Scholarship is open to Ritchie County High School
graduating seniors and Ritchie County resident. Applicants must have a 2.0 minimum grade
point average and must be enrolled at an accredited vocational, technical or trade school. Selection is based on financial need and academic promise.
The Chester R. Bruce Scholarship is open to former graduates or graduating seniors of Wirt County High School who are pursuing either vocational or trade studies or Christian ministry or service. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average and must be enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate two-or four-year program,vocational/technical program, or a graduate school.
The Ravenswood High School Friends and Alumni Scholarship Fund is open to graduating seniors or previous graduates within the past 10 years of Ravenswood High School who have maintained a 2.0 grade point average and are pursuing a degree or certification at a trade or technical school or accredited college or university. Preference will be given to students who have participated in community service activities and have financial need. Previous recipients may apply and be considered along with new applicants.
The Mason County Scholarship of Promise is open to graduates or graduating seniors of Point Pleasant High School who plan to attend or are attending a post-high school educational institution to pursue an associates degrees and/or certificate program. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.85. Selection is based on financial need, community service, leadership qualities, and participation in school activities, with an emphasis on co-curricular and community service learning activities.
To be considered for these scholarships, applicants must complete Our Community's Foundation General Scholarship Application Form, which is an online application process that can be accessed through the Foundation's web site, www.pacfwv.com. Click on "Scholarships" for information on how to complete the online application. The application deadline is March 6,2013.
