- Plans are moving ahead for a proposed shopping center at Pike and Lafayette streets. The decision comes after plans were cemented to widen the road at the intersection and put a traffic light in.
- The Marietta Tourist and Convention Bureau is looking for events to publish in its quarterly calendar of events. Businesses interested in sponsoring and event in April, May or June that would interest visitors and residents should contact the Bureau.

- Daniel Preston, a veteran of the Civil War, died in a fire that swept through his Vincent home.
- Smith and Bingman purchased the building at the corner of Fourth and Church streets for their carriage shop. The shop is expected to open in mid-February.
