PARKERSBURG - Parkersburg police officers and detectives continue to search for a man who robbed the Peoples News on Emerson Avenue Friday.
Police and K-9 units were called to Peoples News, 3601 Emerson Ave., around 3:30 p.m. Friday on a suspected armed robbery, according to police reports.
Officials said officers were dispatched to the scene when the Wood County 911 Center learned a male suspect was at large. The suspect was described as a 6-foot tall male who was dressed in all black and wearing a black ski mask.
The suspect allegedly entered the store, produced an unknown weapon and shoved the 19-year-old male employee to the rear of the building and onto the floor, said Sgt. Greg Collins with the Parkersburg Police Department. The store employee was allegedly struck in the face by the suspect, Collins said.
The man collected an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot through the back alley, police said.
The suspect had not been arrested as of Friday night, police said.
"Numerous uniformed officers and a Parkersburg police canine searched the area with negative results," Collins said.
Police said detectives arrived on scene to process evidence, interview the employee victim and any potential witnesses. Collins said no surveillance cameras were in use at the store and detectives continue to investigate the incident.
The business resumed operations as soon as police left the scene, officials said.
