An 11-year-old girl escaped from a potential abductor in Beverly late Thursday afternoon.
The girl is unharmed, according to Beverly Police Det. Ted Offenberger. The incident took place near the Muskingum River behind Fort Frye High School, he said.
Beverly police and the Washington County Sheriff's Office are looking for a white man described as being in his 30s, about 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighting about 180 pounds. He was wearing a camo shirt and pants with an orange toboggan. He also was carrying a long gun, but it's not known if it was a real weapon, Offenberger said. The suspect has facial hair, but no mustache, he said.
The Beverly area was scoured immediately after the incident, which took place around 5:15 to 5:30 p.m. The girl was playing by herself when the man chased her down, the detective said.
Anyone with information on the case should call the sheriff's office at 376-7070, Offenberger said.
