Washington Technical College has offered to pay Marietta City Schools $24,000 a year, for a minimum of three years, to lease Fairview School. The board tabled discussions on the offer, opting to wait for public opinion. The school will close at the end of the school year.
The announcement of a multi-screen theater being built will allow Marietta to have a cinema for the first time in more than two years, since the Colony closed.

Area bowlers have been invited to the Washington County Easter Seal's first bowl-a-thon on Feb. 27. Sessions are planned for 9 and 11:30 a.m.
Douglas Fraser, retired president of the United Autoworkers, will be the keynote speaker at the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner. Fraser is credited with helping rescue Chrysler from bankruptcy and transforming it into a world competitor.
100 years ago
The Elks Marietta Lodge No. 477 is set to hold a large meeting. An inspection of the Lodge will be conducted by District Deputy Streb. He will also be the guest of honor at a social session. A banquet will be held and there will be many guest speakers.
