Donna Sue Johnson, of Delaware, Ohio, passed away Tuesday (March 5, 2013) at Mount Carmel West Hospital. She found eternal peace at the age of 66. Donna was born on Oct. 6, 1946, in Marietta, to the late Hiram (Pat) and Mary (Christy) Cassidy.
A native of Marietta, Donna graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1964 and from Valley Beauty School in 1965. She was employed at Stepps Beauty Salon after beauty school from 1966 to 1970. She was united in marriage to David Johnson on Jan. 25, 1969, in Marietta. When David left Navel Air after four years of service in 1970, they moved to Columbus and she was employed by Food Machine Corporation (FMC) as a purchasing agent from 1970 to 1972.
Donna then devoted her life to raising her two boys Patrick and David Jr. and supporting her husband David. She became an Assistant Cub Scout Leader for Den 1 of Pack 185 and PTA member of both Dublin Middle and High Schools. Donna was a member of the St. Brigid of Kildare-Dublin.
Donnie (David's pet name for her) and David where married 44 wonderful years. She was known to say "I almost have him trained"!
Donna was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend.
She was also mom and confidant to countless friends of her own children and provided a safe haven for whatever needs they had. She always had a smile, snack or food, a place to stay, and most importantly an ear for listening and a hug for love. You never knew who would be on the couch or on one of her son's floors when coming home in the evening, but everyone was welcomed with open arms.
She spent many long hours nurturing and fostering her Mother during her time in an assisted living facility. After her mother's passing, she continued as a volunteer helping family members better understand the special needs of their parent or loved one. She often spent time with the unfortunate ones who did not have local family or visitors.
Donna was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed gardening, shopping with coupons and thrifting, vacationing at her sister's place in La Quinta California, and traveling throughout Europe. She also had a soft spot for rescuing animals. There wasn't an animal she didn't love and that didn't love her back.
David was devoted to his career and Donna supported him by being both mother and father to their young children when he traveled the U.S. and especially internationally. She was often a delightful hostess to both US and International Clients of the Nuclear Engineering Team of Solidstate Controls. She helped host business dinners, special events, often entertaining spouses and companions.
Donna is survived by her husband of 44 years, David Johnson of Delaware; Sons, Patrick Johnson and David Johnson and his significant other, Kristen Haumschild; Sister, Linda (Jim) Rooney of Littleton, Colorado. Donna is preceded in death by her parents.
