The Marietta College softball team surged for 10 runs on 10 hits in a 10-5 victory over Bethany College in the first game of double header Thursday at Marietta Field.
Runs were much harder to come by in the night cap for the Pioneers, as MC was held to two hits and zero runs in a 2-0 loss.
Marietta head coach Jeanne Arbuckle saw things that she liked and disliked in the non-conference split.

Marietta College’s Michelle Sayre (22) throws to first during a game against Bethany College Thursday at Marietta Field.
"We're certainly happy to get the first win," Arbuckle said. "I thought we played pretty good softball that first game.
"We were productive in the batter's box and put together a pretty good offense. The second game we just failed to adjust. I didn't think our hitters had the right approach going into the batter's box. (Bethany's) pitcher certainly threw a nice game. I certainly have to give her credit, but we've got be able to adjust and make something happen."
The Bison jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one on a two run double from Emily Jump in the opening frame.

The Pioneers cut the deficit in half in the bottom part of the first on Ris McDaniel's solo homerun to center field.
Later, in the bottom of the fourth, MC struck for two more runs to take a 3-2 lead. Hannah Tarski's double brought home Michelle Sayre, and Tarski later scored on Katie Swejk's infield single.
Bethany tied it up in the top of the fifth when Jessica Kusnierz's single down the right field line plated Taylor Solomom.
The Pioneers answered with a five-spot in the bottom of the fifth. McDaniel led the inning off with a walk and advanced all the way to third on a sacrifice bunt by Trayla Liles. McDaniel then scored on a wild pitch to give Marietta the lead.
Later in the inning, with bases juiced, Jayla Graves drew a walk to bring home Sayre. Swejk followed with another base on balls to score Ali Keller before Sarah Mayo blew things open with a single to center to bring in Graves and Tarski and put Marietta up 8-3.
After the Bison got a run back in the top of the sixth, Marietta answered with a pair of its own in the bottom half of the inning when Keller's single to right field scored Liles, and Tarski's sacrifice fly to left brought home Montana Green.
Bethany tacked on another run in the seventh to make the score 10-5, but that was it.
Alexis O'Hair (4-2) picked up the mound victory, going 5.1 innings and giving up three earned runs. Courtney Kerwood earned the save by pitching the final 1.2 innings.
"I thought Alexis threw well," Arbuckle said, "and Courtney came in and did a good job."
Kiersten Conwell (2-5) gave up six earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched to suffer the loss.
Swejk and Sayre each recorded two hits in the first game, while Swejk, Mayo and Tarski each tallied a pair of runs batted in.
Jump (5-2) was the story of the second game, going the distance on the mound while allowing just two base hits en route to a 2-0 victory for the Bison (7-7).
Maria Vallone came through with an RBI triple in the third inning to open the scoring and Marissa Bosley and Kadie Kelly hit back-to-back run-producing doubles in the fourth to put the Bison up 3-0.
They would tack one in the fifth and one in the seventh to make it a five-run game, which was more than enough as the Marietta bats went quiet in the night cap.
Kelley and Tarski recorded the only hits of the game against Jump. Lauren Larrick (4-3) lasted just 3.1 innings, surrendering three earned runs to get tagged with the loss.
Marietta (11-5, 2-0) will look to remain undefeated in OAC play today when it hosts Ohio Northern in another double header. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
"Ohio Northern is the reigning (OAC) champion from last year," Arbuckle said. "They always put a good ball team on the field so I think we should expect a good ballgame. I think we can be successful if we just play one pitch at a time and come out and put a good performance together."
