Chief Petty Officer James ‘Ed’ Landis

Chief Petty Officer James "Ed" Landis, 48, of Vincent, died on Wednesday (March 27, 2013) at his home. He was born in South Charleston, W.Va., to Romie Landis and Winifrede "Tudy" Landis.

Ed was chief petty officer in the Navy Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB 24) based out of Huntsville, Ala. He served two tours overseas in Iraq and was promoted to chief only one week before being diagnosed with cancer. Ed was a stellar soldier who took pride in knowing that he was defending his country.

He is survived by his loving wife, Amy McCarty Landis; mother, Winifrede "Tudy" Bowman and stepfather, Jim; father, Romie C. Landis and stepmother, Erica; one brother, Tim Landis (Diane); and many special brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Perry and Vivian Allinder; mother-in-law, Helen McCarty; one aunt, Sharon Flanagan; and one uncle, Randy Allinder.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday (March 29) at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre. A gathering of friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (March 29) at the funeral home.
