BEVERLY-The Fort Frye Cadets kicked off the 2013 baseball season in fine fashion as they rolled to a doubleheader sweep over the Meadowbrook Colts Saturday afternoon at Fort Frye High School.
The Cadets used a perfect blend of strong pitching and timely hitting to score an 11-2 victory in the opener and picked right up where they left off in the nightcap as they disposed of the Colts 11-1 in six innings.
Caden Brooker gave head coach Sonny Bidwell's Cadets a strong pitching effort in the opener as the senior right hander grabbed the win by allowing just four hits and a pair of runs in five innings of work.

The Cadets scored six times in the second inning of the opener and after Meadowbrook got two of those runs back in the top of the fourth, the Fort answered with three runs in their half of the fourth and two more in the fifth to increase the lead to 11-2.
Leadoff hitter Spencer Lang picked up a couple of basehits and scored three times to pace the Cadet offense in the opener, while Brooker added a couple of hits and drove in three runs to help his own cause.
Bradley Martin fired a pair of scoreless innings of relief to seal the deal for the Cadets.

Next Game: Fort Frye at Cambridge today.
The nightcap proved to be more of the same as the Cadets jumped all over Meadowbrook starting pitcher Jacob Quinn for five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Lang led off the first with a double and came around to score the first run on a ground out by Colton Shuster.
Casey Hall followed with a single and Brooker drew a walk, and one out later Martin, Tanner Rice and Drew Layton combined for three straight base hits to give the Cadets a 5-0 lead.
Those five runs would turn out to be more than enough for Lang who got the start on the mound in game two.
Lang allowed just one run on three hits and struck out five in five and a third innings of work.
A two-run single by Shuster in the last of the third made it 7-0, before the Colts got on the board in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by Evan Adamik.
The Cadets scored an unearned run in the last of the fourth and Lang's third two-base hit of the game plated Terren Huck in the fifth with the ninth run of the game.
Fort Frye scored a pair of runs in the last of the sixth, the last coming on a single to left field off the bat of pinch hitter C.J. Huck to increase the lead to 11-1 and bring the double header to a close.
Nine different Cadet hitters collected at least one hit in the second game, and the Cadets defense committed just one error.
Lang was credited with the win with relief help from Casey Hall, while Quinn was saddled with the loss.
The Cadets outhit Meadowbrook 21-8 in the twin bill.
Next up for the Cadets is their first road game of the year today as they travel to Cambridge to battle the Bobcats.
