Sarah K. Silvus, 85, of Beverly, Ohio, died Monday (April 1, 2013) at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta. She was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Morgan County, Ohio, daughter of Mike and Anna Gunto Ponchak.
She had been a custodian at Center Elementary School in Hackney and later became secretary of the school. She later retired as Clerk for the Center Township Trustees. She graduated from Manchester High School at Reinersville. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and was a member and had been treasurer of the Council on Aging in Morgan County.
She was married April 16, 1946, to Robert Silvus who survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Linda Wagner and husband Paul of Beverly; a granddaughter, Melissa Wagner Percic and husband Rich of Lisbon, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Harriette Ponchak of McConnelsville and Glenna Tullius of Beverly; and a brother-in-law, Branch Parsons of Beverly. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Carlos, George, Mike and Wesley Ponchak; four sisters, Anna Moore, Eva Deal, Mary Johnson and Susie Fain.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Monsignor Robert Kawa officiating. Burial will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Donations may be made to the Beverly Waterford Rescue Squad.
