Thelma J. Batson, 93, of Parkersburg, died Saturday (April 6, 2013) at Marietta Center.
She was born in Long Reach, W.Va., but raised in Friendly, W.Va., to the late Charles F. and Mildred Virginia (Jones) Flesher.
She was a 1937 graduate of Sistersville High School and retired from Corning Glass after 25 years. She was a member of Stephenson United Methodist Church and the Martha Washington Chapter #22 Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie (Skaggs) Hawkins (Larry) of Marietta; two grandsons, Dr. Todd Hawkins (Mindy) and Troy Hawkins (Tricia), all of Marietta; six great-grandchildren Nathan, Janelle, Nicholas, Madeline, Claire, and Andrew; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Batson; four brothers George, Charles, Clarence, and Ralph Flesher; and a sister, Mildred Cline.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with the Rev. Mona Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
