- At least 11 employees and former employees of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) are being subpoenaed before the Washington County grand jury Tuesday to tell what they know about allegations of illegal wiretapping in the District 10 office on Muskingum Drive.
- The Children's Bicentennial Celebration at Don Drumm Stadium saw an anxious moment when skydiver Michael Duvall landed at the Marietta Middle School instead of the stadium when his parachute opened too late to allow him to reach the stadium.

- A train carrying Gov. Cox and E.P. Bicknell, Red Cross director, left Columbus earlier today. The governor will make stops in Zanesville, Ironton, Portsmouth, Gallipolis, Pomeroy and Marietta before returning to Columbus. The report that will result from the visit will determine how much of Ohio's flood relief fund will be given to each flood-ravaged city.
-Col. Harry Knox, of the Seventh Regiment, Military District Commander, placed the city under martial law yesterday at noon.
