Bernard Daniel Young, 80, of Bentonville, Ark., formerly of Searcy, Ark., passed away on Saturday (April 27, 2013) at Legacy Village Hospice Home in Bentonville, Ark.

Bernard was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Marietta, to Herbert and Mildred (O'Brien) Young. He was a 1952 graduate of Marietta High School. A veteran of the Korean War, he served eight years in the U.S. Air Force beginning in 1952 as a parachute rigger and an aircraft instrument specialist, finishing his service with the Air Force Systems Command at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C.

Bernard chose agriculture as a career. His wealth of knowledge was often spent teaching others how to coax produce from the ground. He retired from the grounds maintenance department of Harding University where he spent the final years of his career.

Bernard was a member of the Westside Church of Christ in Searcy, Ark. He firmly believed the gospel and lived to please God to the best of his ability.

Bernard leaves his wife of 56 years, Dorothy (Hall) whom he married on Nov. 25, 1956. He also leaves three children, Anthony Young of Searcy, Ark., Alan Young (Desiree) of Bentonville, Ark. and Kathryn Wideman (Tom) of Grapevine, Texas; along with six grandchildren, Allyson (Raymond) Carter, Adam (Tamara) Young, Ashton Young, Sara Beth Wideman, Emily Wideman and Justin Wideman. He leaves a brother, James Young (Diane) of Kennewick, Wash.; two sisters, Joanne Blair (John) of Marietta and Sarah Strahler (Dan) of New Albany, Ohio; a stepbrother, Ralph Hockenberry (Patricia) of Longwood Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Patricia (Falcon) Young, of Columbiana, Ohio, widow of brother Donald Young who preceded Bernard in death.

Visitation will be Tuesday (April 30, 2013) in the Roller-Daniel Funeral Home Chapel (501)268-3546, a funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock on May 1, 2013 at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy, Ark., officiated by Mr. James Anderson of Westside Church of Christ. Interment will follow at White County Memorial Gardens.
