PARKERSBURG - Two quality high school baseball teams went at it Thursday when Parkersburg South hosted Fort Frye in a non-conference showdown.
The Patriots got the best of the Cadets, claiming a 5-4 victory.
Sonny Bidwell-coached Fort Frye played a clean game, collecting six hits and committing just one error. Problem was, South notched eight hits and had zero errors.
The Cadets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but the Patriots responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the first.
South made it 3-1 with another run in the bottom of the second, but the Cadets cut it to a one-run game when they sent a runner across the plate in the top of the third.
Fort Frye would retake the lead with a two-spot in top of the sixth, but once again the lead was short-lived as South answered with a pair of runs to take a 5-4 lead.
