Earl Laiten Metts, 91, of Marietta, passed away on Sunday (June 2, 2013) at Harmar Place.
He was born on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 1921, in Archer's Fork, Ohio, to the late George and Mary (Evans) Metts. Earl was a graduate of Marietta High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married his loving wife, Betty Beaver, on July 12, 1941 at the bride's house in Marietta. Earl was a member of the American Legion Post #64, American Union Lodge No. 1 F & A.M., Marietta, and Marietta Commandery No. 50 Knights Templar. Earl worked for Rich Loaf Bakery, later called Pennington Bakery, as a supervisor for 40 years, Marietta Memorial Hospital for 11 years, Broughton Foods for five years, and helped establish the Reno Volunteer Fire Department 55 years ago.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty Metts; one daughter, Lori O'Connor (Bill) of Marietta; one son, Larry Metts (Connie) of Greenwood, Ind.; four grandchildren, Aimee Woehler (Terry), Stephanie Davis (Joedy), Shawn and Will O'Connor; four great-grandchildren, Gwen and Grace Woehler, and Will and Ella Davis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Laiten Metts.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday (June 5, 2013) at Gilman United Methodist Church with the Rev. Diann O'Bryant officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday (June 4) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in East Lawn Memorial Park.
