Congratulations to the five Washington County athletes who placed in the state track meet over the weekend.
Just making it to the state meet is a special honor, but to finish among the top eight in Ohio is extra special.
- Ally Rohrer, of Waterford High, two hurdles events.
- Maddy Sury, of
Waterford High, the 800-meter run.
- Emma Ryan, of Warren High, the discus.
- Raelynn Gardner, of Warren High, the pole vault.
- Dakota Hoffman, of Belpre High, the long jump.
It's great to see all the hours of conditioning, practicing and competing during the regular season pay off with state recognition. Their success builds pride among everyone in the Mid-Ohio Valley just as the Williamstown High School girls track team did for that community and the region last month by winning the West Virginia state title for the third year in a row.
Spring sports participants often don't get the notice and acclaim of many other, more visible high school athletes, such as football and basketball. But by doing so well in track and field events a select few local athletes from the area show this area produces some of the best competitors in all of Ohio.
Again, congratulations on a job well done.
