CTMCM-E9 Dwight Oliver Nichols, 84, of Marietta, passed away Tuesday (June 11, 2013) at Harmar Place.
Dwight was born June 14, 1928, at Macksburg, to Ada L. (Oliver) and Albert L. Nichols. He married Glenna R. McGrew on Dec. 19, 1948. They had a daughter, Rona Arlane Slaboda (Paul), and a son, Donald Alva Nichols. Also surviving are grandchildren, Penny Anne Slaboda (Jim Smith) and Stephen Lewis Slaboda (Beth); and great-grandchildren, Zoe, and one due in September; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ruth Knudtson.
While in the Navy he was stationed at Bainbridge, Md., on the USS Missouri (BB63), served as an instructor at Great Lakes, Ill., Guam, Cheltenham, Md. Cyprus, Cheltenham, England, Morocco, Turkey, Portsmouth, Va., Homestead, Fla., USNS PVT Jose F. Valdez, Japan, Washington D.C., Bremerhaven, Germany and retired at Homestead, Fla. Dwight worked for Florida Power and Light Company for 18 years before retiring Jan. 1, 1989.
Dwight was a Red Cross volunteer and a volunteer worker for Gold Coast Railroad Museum, Miami-Dade and as a fireman, conductor and engineer.
