The lack of rain and absence of a working railroad along Ohio 7 could jeopardize the production of aluminum at Ormet Corp.'s Hannibal smelter. Low river levels and no working railroad could halt delivery of the ore needed to make aluminum. Despite this hurdle, the plant is planning to stay fully operational.
The Becky Thatcher theater will offer a series of melodramas through Aug. 27. Productions include "Lady Audley's Secret," "The Wayward Way," "Under the Gaslight" and "Dirty Work at the Crossroads."

John Britton, believed to be angry over the separation from his wife since the March flood, went to her room in Orville Ward's home, argued with and then shot her to death while she lay in her bed. After killing his wife, Britton walked outside and fired a bullet into his right temple.
Hundreds witnessed The Drama of Humanity at the Hippodrome. The picture, entitled "Satan," cost $200,000 to produce and is considered one of the finer pictures shown in the city.
