Switzerland schools to consult with state
The Switzerland of Ohio Local school district will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. Friday at 304 Mill St., Woodsfield. The purpose of the meeting is to consult with the Ohio Department of Education regarding financial issues, expenditure reduction plans and discussion of Phase IV cuts in the event of the November levy failure. There will be a work session and executive session only with no public participation.
Reno VFD needs pies and cakes
The Reno Volunteer Fire Department is in need of pies and cakes for its ice cream social on Saturday. Donations may be dropped off that morning at the social site behind Pioneer Chevrolet on Ohio 7. Due to health department regulations no cream pies and desserts can be accepted. Monetary donations may be sent to P.O. Box 346 Reno, OH 45773.

State rep to speak to Democratic women
Ohio Rep. Debbie Phillips, D-Albany, will be the guest speaker at the Thursday meeting of the Washington County Democratic Women's Action Committee. Phillips will be discussing the new state budget and how various aspects of it will affect local residents. The group will meet at the VFW on Pike Street in Marietta at 11:30 a.m. for lunch. The meeting will begin promptly at noon.
at K of C Hall
An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 312 Franklin St. There will be pancakes, French toast and sausage. Country store items will be available. The breakfast will support the ARC summer camp for youth with developmental disabilities. Cost is a donation.

Shrine Club to
host golf outing
The Marietta Shrine Club will be hosting a golf outing on Aug. 17 at the Marietta Country Club with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. The scramble will have a different scenario and skill prizes at every hole. The first place prize pays $400. There will also be a putting contest. The entry fee of $75 includes golf, cart, breakfast and lunch. Advertising packages are available.
