Marion ‘Merle’ ‘Kirkie’ Kirkbride

Marion "Merle" "Kirkie" Kirkbride, 92, of East Liverpool, Ohio passed away at Essex III in Salem, Ohio Thursday, July 25, 2013 .He was born in New Matamoras, Ohio on June 9, 1921, a son of the late Henry Martin and Mattie Belle (Eddy) Kirkbride.

Moving from New Matamoras in 1946, Mr. Kirkbride worked as a pipefitter for the former Crucible Steel, before his retirement in 1983. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

His wife, Vera W. (Hupp) Kirkbride, whom he married Aug. 10, 1946, survives him at home. He is also survived by two sons: Thomas M. (Nancy) Kirkbride and Gary D. (Jeri) Kirkbride; a daughter, Barbara (Larry) Baughman; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, four brothers, Thomas C. Kirkbride, Carl E. Kirkbride, Wayne Kirkbride and Virgene Kirkbride and three sisters, Waunita Hartshorn, Rachel C. Nickerson and Elizabeth Kirkbride preceded him in death.

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 15872 St. Clair Ave., East Liverpool, Ohio 43920 on Monday, July 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Wildes of New Lisbon Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta on Sunday, July 28, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
