Back to school safety workshop
"Back to School Safely," a free workshop for parents will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at 200 Union Square, Suite 3, Marietta. The workshop is designed to help parents teach personal safety to children from preschool to college. It will be presented by Anna Marcel de Hermanas, licensed professional clinical counselor. Pancake breakfast to benefit pantry
The Marietta Community Food Pantry will hold a pancake breakfast at Applebee's of Marietta from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Aug. 10. Tickets are $5 at the door. All proceeds will go to the food pantry.
Marietta High sets orientation
The Marietta High School Ninth Grade Orientation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the school.
Castle to hold field school Aug. 5-8
An Archaeology Field School for adults will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5-8 at The Castle. The cost is $50 for the week. The school will include introductory discussions and hands-on activities regarding the goals and methods of modern archaeology. An initial excavation experience will occur on The Castle grounds, followed by a special excavation project at another location in the city. Pre-registration is required by calling 373-4180.
Yard sale planned by American Legion
The Williamstown American Legion Auxiliary Post 159 will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 10. Tables can be rented for $10 for one and $5 for a second table. Those who sell items keep their profits. Setup is after 7 pm. Aug. 9 or at 7 a.m. Aug. 10. There will be food sales on site.

Barlow library to host 'bingo'
Longaberger, Tupperware and Middleton Doll Bingo will be held Aug. 9 in the lower level of the Barlow Library. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with Bingo at 6:30. There will be a country store, concessions and a 50/50. All proceeds will benefit the Barlow Area Memorial Arch. For advance registration call Susie at 678-8278.
Meetings set for village of Beverly
The village of Beverly committee meetings for August will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The regular council meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 14. The Board of Public Affairs meeting will be at 5 p.m. Aug. 28. All meetings will be at the village office, 919 Mitchell Ave.
