Let the two-a-days grind begin.
High School football teams in the Mid-Ohio Valley are scheduled to be on the practice field today. A lot of hard work and preparation is necessary to get ready for the majority of Aug. 30 season openers. At 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31, Warren is tentatively slated to play the Parkersburg Big Reds at Don Drumm Stadium.
Fort Frye, the only school in Washington County to compete in the postseason last year, got off to an early start in workouts on the grid in Beverly last Thursday. The Eric Huck-coached Cadets, who were 8-3 overall in 2012, will be back at it from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday and Friday.
On Tuesday and Thurday, practice is from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Fort is scheduled to host River in its season lid-lifter at 7 p.m. Aug. 30
Marietta High kicks off its first practice of the campaign from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Davis Avenue practice field. The Adam Eichhorn-led Tigers were 1-9 last year.
MHS is slated to entertain Morgan in its season open at Don Drumm Stadium at 7:30 p.m Aug. 30.
Warren will be on the practice field from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today. The Andy Schob-coached Warriors, who were 4-6 last fall, were originally scheduled to play PHS at Stadium Field on Aug. 30. But due to ongoing construction at the Big Reds facility, that has changed.
The royal blue and white will be among the first in the state of Ohio to take the field on the first full contact day of the season as it will be hosting its 4th annual midnight practice at Warrior Stadium.
Officially it will be a Saturday practice, but for most people...it is Friday August 9 at midnight.
The Warriors will then be having hitting drills and have an intrasquad scrimmage.
Frontier has elected to go with a morning session as it will be practicing from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or noon today. The Todd Bradford-coached Cougars, 4-6 last season, are slated to kick off their fall against visiting Shenandoah in a Pioneer Valley Conference tilt at 7 p.m. Aug. 30.
Waterford is set to go from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. The Tom Tucker-led Wildcats, who were 2-8 in 2012, kick off their season against visiting Miller at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 30.
Also on the practice grid today will be Belpre, Williamstown, St. Marys, Monroe Central, Shenandoah, Caldwell, Parkersburg Catholic, PHS, and Parkersburg South.
