BELPRE - Administrators, teachers and staff at Belpre Elementary School will participate in the annual Back to School Rally this evening.
The event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the school and will include games, music, hot dogs and drinks for all students and family members, said school principal Joy Edgell.
"The rally is our big party to celebrate the new school year before the real work begins," said Edgell. She said the evening is meant as a transition back to school to allow kids to see their friends and new students get a chance to see the school and meet fellow students.
Belpre Elementary School students and their families are invited to have dinner and tour the school as well as play on inflatables and see old friends.
The event is free for everyone and is sponsored by Partners in Education Peoples Bank and Orion Industries, formerly Evonik Degussa Engineered Carbons.
"We will have stations set up around the playground and school with information about the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as well as soccer and other groups the kids might want to join," Edgell said.

- The rally will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the school and will include games, music, hot dogs and drinks for all students and family members.
- For the first time, the rally will include an open house where many of the school's teachers and staff will be in their classrooms to meet students and parents before the year begins.
For the first year, the school has decided to also have an open house during the rally with many of the teachers and staff available to meet their new students. Parents are encouraged to bring supplies during the event so that step it done and out of the way when school begins.
"We hope to have the majority of our staff there with their rooms open to give the kids and parents the opportunity to meet and get to know their teacher for the coming year," Edgell said. "Most of our teachers are very excited about the new school year and so am I."
This will be Edgell's first year as part of the school and district. She was hired by the Belpre City Schools District Board of Education during a special meeting in July. Edgell previously taught at Cutler and Barlow-Vincent elementary schools.
"With this rally we tried to make it as family-friendly as possible to have a positive start to this school year," Edgell said.
This rally begins the new school year as teacher orientation will be Wednesday, the first day back for all staff Thursday with professional development and the first day of classes for Belpre students will be Aug. 20.
