Marietta’s Garrett Bertram putts during a tri-meet at Marietta Country Club Wednesday.
Without its top two golfers, Marietta High finished third in a tri-match at Marietta Country Club Wednesday.
Jeffrey Hensler and Nathan Matheny were unavailable for the Tigers, who shot 171 as a team to finish nine strokes behind first place Parkersburg South (162) and three strokes behind second place Parkersburg High (168).
"Considering we didn't have our top two golfers, I thought we did pretty well," said MHS coach John Doughty.

Rounding out the Patriots' scores was Garret Dailey at 45, Dylan Cress at 46, Sam Boso at 48 and Noah Smith at 49.

The orange and black had a big performance from Nick Thieman, who stepped up as the team's No. 1 in the absence of Hensler and Matheny and came through with a 39.
"That's a pretty good round for Nick," Doughty said.
Garrett Bertram shot a 41 for Marietta, while twins Max and Matt Fitzgerald shot a 43 and 48, respectively. Jack Hirschfield chipped in with a 53 for the Tigers.
The golfers enjoyed a very pleasant day weather-wise, with the sun shining and the wind being essentially a non-factor.
Marietta is back in action today at Cambridge, while the three teams will all meet again next Wednesday in another tri-match at Woodridge Golf Club.
Marietta is scheduled for seven more matches this month before sectional action begins Oct. 1 at Lakeside Golf Course.
