Following a 5 1/2-month, $335,000 overhaul at Beatty's shipyards in Warsaw, Kentucky, the W. P. Snyder Jr. returned to Marietta just in time for the Sternwheel Festival. The Snyder is the only steam-powered sternwheeler towboat in the United States.

Scott L. Rush, the turncoat American soldier now disillusioned with Communist China, is identified as a Mariettan in the national news stories about his return to the U.S. Rush lived in Marietta only a few months before enlisting in the army and no longer has any close relatives here. He is one of 21 U.S. soldiers who chose to live in Communist China following capture by the North Koreans in 1950.

The city fire bells were rung Monday afternoon while Harvey H. Cox, pipeman at Hose Company No. 1, was being married to Miss Anna Sprague at the home of the Reverend Coil, a few doors down from the fire department. The couple went to housekeeping at 103 Montgomery St.
