Marietta's Betsy Mitchell will be awarded an Olympic silver medal for her qualifying round swim in the 4x100 medley relay. Mitchell, 22, was part of the U.S. team that finished second in 4:10.38.

Several ladies from Lowell, including Mary F. Schaad, Amelia Bosner, Ruth Offenberger, and Kathryn Hengen, gathered at the home of Pauline Bosner to help her make apple butter the old-fashioned way. Four bushels of apples were peeled and cooked with 25 pounds of sugar in a 30-gallon copper kettle. The women made 45 quarts of apple butter.

Charles L. Dye, proprietor of a saloon on Ohio Street, was accused of selling whiskey after the closing hour. Dye claims that he was framed by Pearl Anderson, against whom he had filed an affidavit in court for conducting a house of ill fame next door to his business.
