Claire Vadnais Bemis, 92, formerly of Springfield, Mo., passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 1, 2013) at Highland Oaks Health Center in McConnelsville.
She was the daughter of Lionel and Ann Marie Vadnais of Waterbury, Conn. She was a graduate of Wilby High School in Waterbury, Conn., attended the University of Connecticut, and graduated from Hartford (Connecticut) Seminary with a degree in religious education.
She was raised and spent much of her adult life in Waterbury, where she worked primarily as a stenographer. After completing her religious education degree, she served as Director of Religious Education at Naugatuck (Connecticut) Congregational Church. She has also lived in El Paso, Texas and, most recently, in Springfield, Mo . In Springfield she was an 18-year member and served on the Board of Deacons of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church from 2008-2009.
She will be missed and is survived by her son, Dr. George Banziger (Gwen) of Marietta; a brother, Richard Vadnais (Elizabeth) of Olympia, Wash.; three grandchildren, Dean (Melary) Banziger of Little Hocking, Bryan Banziger of Dixon, Ill., and Minda Banziger of Belpre; two great-grandchildren, Andrew John Banziger and Samantha Claire Banziger of Little Hocking.
Claire was independent, a feminist, politically active, a model of service, and a dedicated friend and family member. She was a dog lover, aficionada of opera, symphony supporter, and member of the PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Sisterhood.
