Government by extortion seems to be the only way for the right-wing House Republicans to operate these days. It's become a way of life to them and they love every minute of their juvenile delinquent obstructionism. Shutting down our government because President Obama won't give up on his healthcare program is nothing short of criminal negligence, and these obstructionists continue to be paid by us for their execrable behavior. They have done absolutely nothing to help us get through this recession, in fact they have done everything they can to make it worse.
These right-wing fanatics hate government and they take great pleasure in bringing it down. They don't serve us, they serve a small faction of tea partiers in extremely gerrymandered districts, who are funded by the Koch brothers. These billionaires have taken direct aim at our president and his number one accomplishment, and they are using the tea party in an effort to destroy his presidency.
Never mind that the Affordable Care Act is established law, passed by congress, signed by the president, upheld by the Supreme Court, and is already helping millions of Americans. And wasn't President Obama handily reelected with the AFA as the number one issue in the campaign?
Make no mistake, these bomb-throwers will not stop until they have completely shredded the social safety net that so many Americans have come to rely on in these hard times. Along with the Affordable Care Act, they are after Social Security, Medicare, unemployment benefits, food stamps, public education, and every other program that supports the common good.
The question is, how long are the American people going to tolerate this blatant sabotage of our government? What is it going to take to get the sleepy silent majority to engage? In order to keep this country strong and thriving, there must be one other group that is equally involved in addition to the executive, legislative, and judicial, and that is the citizenry. I was taught many years ago, as a student in American History class, that this country was a democracy, "of the people, by the people, and for the people". And that means ALL the people, not just a select few. If that's true, and we all know that it is supposed to be true, then I have to ask: Where are the people?
