A proposal for use of $360,000 in federal funds is in limbo after Marietta City Council members failed to reach an agreement on how the money should be spent. Development Director Jim Baker said the disagreement may stall receiving the money until next year.

David D. Ray and Richard P. Patterson of Marietta are the authors of an illustrated article, "Archaic Man in Washington County, Ohio," which was published in the current issue of Ohio Archaeologist.
100 years ago
A match tossed into a puddle of oil started a fire, which resulted in an explosion of an oil tank on the Watkins lease near Bartlett. Dow Arnold and Harry Rudolph were badly burned, and Floyd Rudolph died from the injuries.
