John H. Lowery Sr., 77, of Belpre, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 20, 2013) at his home. He was born on March 10, 1936, in Marietta, a son of William and Rebecca McGill Lowery.
John attended Marietta High School and served for four years in the U.S. Navy on the USS Freemont. He had worked for Vogue Swift Cleaners, Richardson Printing, was a bus driver for Ewing School and Marietta City Schools and retired from Community Action after 20 years of service. He enjoyed wrestling, NASCAR and dirt track racing, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Dec. 19, 1959, he married Phyllis Bailey who survives with their two children, John (Mary) Lowery of Belpre and Debbie (Terry) Seevers of Vincent; grandchildren, Jessica Lowery and fiance Lee Fultz, Stacey Lowery and her fiance Ralph White, David and Vickie Lowery, Chelsey Lowery, Tommy and Lisa Fornash, Crystal (Matt) Ware, Donny Martin and fiance Samantha Evans; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Ruth) Lowery of Canal Winchester; and sister, Mary Lee of Marietta.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, three sisters and grandson, Danny Fornash.
Funeral services will be held on Monday (Nov. 25) at 10:30 a.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Dick Saltzwedel officiating. Burial will follow in Putnam Cemetery.
