Harley Noland will begin operating the Claire-E sternwheeler as Marietta's only floating bed and breakfast. He is also negotiating to gain the lease of a strip of city-owned Muskingum River bank as a permanent docking site for the boat.

The Marietta Tiger basketball team opened the season with a 68-62 triumph over Warren's Warriors. The most outstanding individual effort was Bob Whetsell's 23 points, 18 of them in the first half.

William P. Racer of Greene Street, a painter, died after suffering as the result of lead poisoning. Racer had been painting a boat in the Muskingum River at the Marietta Manufacturing Company's plant.
