Arthur Marion Johnson, 89, of Belpre, passed away Thursday (Nov. 28, 2013) at the Emeritus of Marietta.
He was born in Meadow Creek, W.Va., Dec. 27, 1923, one of eight children of the late William Reese and Lula Mae Gwinn Johnson.
Arthur retired from the Boilermakers Union Local #667 of Charleston and worked maintenance through the union at Shell for several years. He was known for his willingness to help friends and neighbors. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in his orchard and was well know for his bountiful apple trees. Arthur was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belpre.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 66 years, Flora B. Moorefield Johnson; sons, Warren Johnson and wife Georgene of Marietta, Gary Johnson and wife Julie of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; grandchildren, Chelsea Johnson New Zealand, Thaddeus Johnson of Belpre, Russell Johnson and wife Kim of Marietta; great-grandson, Mitchell Johnson; brothers, Charles Johnson of Daniels, W.Va., Earl Johnson of Hampton Road, Va.; sisters, Elizabeth Johnson of Daniels, W.Va., Geneva Manning of Beckley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Bear, and brothers Phillip Johnson and Raymond Johnson.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. David Nutt officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
