After rejecting management's last offer, unionized employees of the Washington County Department of Human Services say they will begin walking a picket line at the agency's downtown headquarters. Public assistance recipients will experience no delay in services, as management and non-union workers will keep the agency running.

The Christmas shopping season has opened in Marietta, and Dec. 6 through Dec. 23, downtown stores will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, Sundays excepted. Santa will move through the streets and stores each evening to chat with children.

The Federal Emergency Planning Agency requests Marietta city officials to get tougher with restrictions on building in areas prone to flooding. Improvements to property in the flood plain will be made subject to a permit and exemptions may increase from $500 to $1,000.

Because of humiliation and injured feelings, as well as her investment in a $500 trousseau, Miss Anna Gerstein of Pittsburgh has filed a $10,000 breach of promise suit against Max Ruby of Marietta. Ruby, a well-known dealer in junk and oil well supplies, had agreed to a Nov. 30 wedding, but flatly refuses to carry out his part of the agreement.
