Marietta High is expected to be more at full strength when it wrestles Caldwell and John Glenn in a tri-match at Marietta Middle School at 5:30 p.m. today.
That was not the case last Saturday when the Bill Heldman-coached Tigers competed at the Greg's Market/John Marshall Invitational at the JM Fieldhouse in Moundsville, W.Va. There, due to illness and injuries, only four orange and black matmen - sophomore Malachi Vaughn (152 pounds), senior Josh Burke (160), junior Garrett Davis (170), and freshman Josh Montgomery (220) - were available for action.
At today's tri-match, that MHS foursome will be joined by freshman senior Josh Clark (106), freshman Zach Clark (113), senior Jake Dickson (152), junior Zach Hearn (160), and sophomore Anthony Winters (182).
Montgomery will probably drop down to the 195-pound weight class.
On Tuesday, Tom Brown-coached Caldwell hosted a tri-match against Bridgeport and Barnesville. The Redskins defeated the Bulldogs, 60-12, and the Shamrocks, 44-21.
Caldwell's wrestling line-up is expected to feature Adam Schockling (113), Tyler Wiley (120), Jason Allen (126), Kolby Rayner (132), Blake Pickenpaugh (138), Kameron Rayner (145), Cody Davis (152), Sheldon Archer (182), Clay Poling (195), Tyson Cartell (220), and Chance Rucker (285).
Kameron Rayner is an All-Ohio wrestler, who last winter placed seventh in the Division III, 138-pound weight class at the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at The Jerome Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University.
John Glenn recently competed in Warren's Hickory Grove Market Invitational in Vincent, and finished fifth overall in a six-team field. The Little Muskies crowned two champions in Matt Tom (182) and Luke Larson (220).
Some other JG grapplers to keep an eye on will be Jon Hinze (106), Aaron Galbreath (113), Ben Van Wey (138), Matt Bennett (145), and Austin Husk (285).
Mike Pahl-coached Warren has scheduled a tri-match against Shenandoah and River Valley in Vincent at 6 p.m. Monday.
