The Warren High School advanced handbell choir, under the direction of Ray Lowther, performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and also rang in front of Macy's Department Store. The program was taped for broadcast on CNN and the USA Today television show.

The safety-service director's office has issued a building permit to the Ashland Oil & Refining Company for the construction of a new service station on the southwest corner of Second and Wooster streets. The new station, with a porcelain enameled steel exterior, will cost $35,000.
100 years ago
Frank Pugh of New Matamoras and Tena Smith of Glass were refused a marriage license because the clerk in Probate Court believed the girl was not 16 years of age. Pugh gave his age as 30, but the girl's father stated he did not know his daughter's age.
