Harold G. Copen, 90, of Brimfield, passed away Dec. 20, 2013. He was born Dec. 12, 1923 to C.H. and Laura Copen up in Happy Hollow, 3 miles from the county seat, Elizabeth, in Wirt County, W.Va.
He attended Bethel M.E. Methodist Church on top of Elizabeth Hill, just above the horseshoe bend. Harold retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 32 years of service. He was a member of First Freedom Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Lloyd A. Copen; daughter-in-law, Anna Marie Copen; grandson, Joseph A. Copen; great-grandson, Jacob D. Bauerbach. He is survived by his wife, Eileen and her daughter, Jill (Tony) Lawrence; his sons, Harold J. "Buck" Copen, Denzil E. Copen and Brian W. (Michelle) Copen; his daughters, Doris E. (Jim) Gomez and Vicki (Tony) Spradley; sister, Elsie Flinn; brother, Vernon Copen; daughter-in-law, Victoria Copen; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, Ohio. Visitation will be Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service with Pastor Dan Alexoff officiating at First Freedom Baptist Church, 2171 Tallmadge Road in Brimfield, Ohio.
