Gardening classes begin Sunday
The sixth year of free community gardening classes in Marietta will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday in the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 232 Third St. The topics Sunday will be healthy soil, plant disease and pest control without herbicides and pesticides. The classes will continue for five more sessions, ending on Feb. 16, when the class will move to the Jubilee Gardens in the former Kardex facility on Greene Street.

Free legal advice clinic Wednesday
The Washington County Bar Association and Southeastern Ohio Legal Services will hold a free advice clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 320 Second St., Marietta. Walk-ins are welcome. The clinic, held the third Wednesday of each month, is for Washington County residents unable to afford legal representation (less than 187 percent of the poverty guideline).

at Pizza Place
A "Raise Some Dough" fundraiser will be held at The Original Pizza Place, 231 Second St., Marietta on Jan. 21. The Mid-Ohio Valley Players will host the fundraiser between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. Those who drop their receipts in their container after paying for their order will have 15 percent of the receipt benefit MOVP. Customers can also call in their order at 374-4333 and mention MOVP.
Starting a business workshop Jan. 21
The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Marietta and the Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce offer free, two-hour "Basis of a Successful Start" workshops that will answer questions about how to start a business. The January workshop will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 21 in the library on the Washington State Community College campus. The workshops are free and open to the public, but registration is required by calling 373-5150 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or emailing email@example.com.
steak fry Saturday
