John Raymond Atkinson, 86, of Vincent, died at his home on Sunday (Jan. 19, 2014).
He was born at Philo, Ohio, on Jan. 2, 1928, and was the son of the late Paul and Irena Place Atkinson. He retired from G.E. Plastics and was a member of the Porterfield Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon for several years. He had also been a BYF leader at the church. He had been a member of the Belpre Masonic Lodge #609.
Survivors include his two sons, Stephen (Dorothy) Atkinson of Vincent and Randy (Teresa) Atkinson of Vincent. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Gina (Brian) Meredith, Justin Atkinson, Jill Flinn, Joy (Terry) Bunner; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Atkinson of Barlow; four sisters, Elsie Hunter of PA, Rita (Harry) Williams of Vincent, Sharon Copeland of Bartlett, and Kathy (Kent) Young of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Atkinson in October, 2013; and a sister, Rosemary Alvis.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Pastor Mark Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Home Health Care Hospice in Belpre.
