Marietta City Council has temporarily banned all new water taps outside the corporate limits. This measure was taken in response to a water shortage problem due to leaky and contaminated water tanks, compounded by last summer's drought.

The largest, most highly automated ferroalloy furnace in the world just began commercial operation at Interlake Iron Corporation's Beverly plant. The new furnace will use as much electrical power as a city of 100,000.

Mrs. Clara McElfresh, aged 35, widow of Neely McElfresh, was badly burned after using a tinful of crude oil to start a fire in a cook stove. The resulting explosion set the woman's clothing ablaze, and it is believed that she will not recover.
